Darrell Luther Betts

Darrell Luther Betts, 77 years of age, of Magnolia, was called home to be with the Lord on the twenty fourth day of March in the year two thousand and twenty four.

Darrell was born in Canyon City, Colorado, on December 23, 1946. He grew up in Canyon City and was a graduate of Canyon City High School, class of 1965. Darrell was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Air Force from 1967-1975. Stationed at Hickam Field in Hawaii, he served as a Tech Staff Sergeant in the Air Force Medical Unit. Darrell obtained the Air Force National Defense Service Medal and numerous campaign and conduct accommodations.

While stationed in Hawaii, he met his wife Eileen Patricia Burns. Married in 1970, they settled in Pueblo, Colorado. While in Pueblo, Darrell attended Southern Colorado State College and obtained his Associates of Nursing Degree in 1974. In 1987, Darrell received his Bachelors of Business from The University of Colorado.

Darrell served in his community in a variety of ways. Darrell coached Little League Football, was a member of the Jaycees, and served on numerous community boards. After moving to Richmond, Texas, Darrell founded the Pecan Grove Athletic Association, a youth football program to teach young kids the importance of teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship through football and created Belin Field.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents: Anita Pearl Willyard and Gilbert Wayne McLaws, adopted by stepfather Harold Luther Betts, brother Harold “Dean’’ Betts, and wife of 49 years Eileen Patricia Betts. He is survived by his son Jared and his wife Cindy and his son Andrew and his wife Kristen. Darrell’s sister, Janice Monson and her husband Robert and his grandson Connor David Betts.

In lieu of flowers, Darrell wishes memorial contributions to be made to Connor David Betts, Darrell’s grandson, for his future educational endeavors. An account has been established in his name. Donations may be sent to 162 Clearmont Place, Montgomery, Tx. 77316.
