Carolyn Sue “Mammaw” Henry

Carolyn Sue “Mammaw” Henry peacefully passed away on March 13, 2024 while at her home in Richmond, Texas. Carolyn was born in Kermit, Texas to Gilbert & Oneta Poindexter on December 17, 1939. She attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas where she met, fell in love and married Ed Henry whom she considered the “all time love of her life”. They married February 28, 1959 and made their home in Weatherford, Texas.

Carolyn, Ed and their three children Dawn, Leon and Nova moved to Houston in 1963. In 1977, Carolyn and Ed, opened E. E. Henry, Inc. in Richmond, Texas and became a proud member of The Houston Contractors Association. In 1982, Carolyn and Ed, along with their children and “in-law” children built Plantation Center which they operated for 25 years until November 2006.

Carolyn’s lifelong devotion was to her husband Ed and their three children, Dawn, Leon and Nova. She was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Oneta Poindexter, father in law & mother in law Sally & Fallis Henry, husband Ed Henry, brother-in-law Boyd Henry, sister-in-law Margaret Henry, brother-in-law Sonny Wiley, and niece Michelle Walters.

Carolyn is survived by her sister Marilyn Wiley; her children, Dawn Henry, Leon Henry, Nova Tropeano and husband Dean Tropeano; her grandchildren and their spouses, Justin & Courtney Henry, Morgan & Matt Aboumrad, Daniel Tropeano, Shannon & Lendon Davenport, Lindsey & Kurt Diederich, Jessica & Luis Clasby, Kristen Tropeano, and Diane Tropeano; her great-grandchildren; Cameron, Eliot, Everly, Liam, Cameron, Brayden, Tyler, Lucas. Also surviving, her nephew Marvin Henry and his wife Pam, their two boys Travis and Cody. Also surviving Jolivette, Randy, Willie, & Jimmy of White Settlement, Texas; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carolyn was a warm, kind, and loving individual who touched the lives of many as a devoted grandma, supportive mother, and someone who always brought a sense of silliness to those around her. She was a wonderful “Mammaw” to her grandkids and anyone else who needed one. She loved to sew costumes and quilts, fix buttons and hem pant legs as another way to show her love and share her gifts. She was a proud member of her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She loved the Lord and was willing to share that love through countless Sunday School classes, bible studies, Vacation Bible Schools, Threads of Hope, Care Team, and so many more ministry opportunities over the years.

Our family would like to thank the visitors and extended family. So many loving moments could be shared but are too numerous to list. She was shown such love and we are so grateful for all the staff at Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land, Neal Cancer Center and Fort Bend Healthcare Center, and her Nurse at Caring Professional Home Health Services.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, April 5th at Faith Methodist Church in Richmond, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Carolyn Henry to: Threads of Hope at Faith Methodist Church 4600 FM 359 Richmond, Texas 77469
