Fort Bend County Judge issued a proclamation in honor of Women’s History Month to Carolyn Jones, the first female mayor of Kendleton. Jones is a fourth generation Kendleton resident and was honored with the proclamation at 84 years old.
Former mayor of Kendleton Carolyn Jones has been honored in celebration of Women’s History Month by Fort Bend County Judge KP George.
At 84 years old, Carolyn was recognized with a proclamation by Fort Bend County Judge KP George for her contributions during Women’s History Month.
“I was surprised because I didn’t even think you could get recognition like that. I never thought I would receive such an honor,” Carolyn remarked.
A fourth-generation Kendleton native, Carolyn holds the distinction of being the first female mayor of Kendleton. Reflecting on the county’s proclamation, she expressed gratitude, saying, “For the county to recognize you with a proclamation, I was appreciative of it.”
Having served 18 years as mayor, Carolyn’s lineage traces back to the city’s earliest settlers. “It was rewarding to be the mayor of the community that raised me,” she shared. “You raise a hand and take an oath to the office to help and to try to make a difference.”
Carolyn recounted how the commissioner’s court approached her after a meeting to inform her of the honor for Women’s History Month. “Just do good and remember that someone is always watching you,” she advised. “Always strive to be the best citizen that you can be.”
During her time as mayor Carolyn got to experience the progression of Kendleton throughout the early 2000s and also got to visit Africa as a delegator.
