THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF FORT BEND COUNTY Rosenberg Civic and Convention Center
BRAZOS BEND STATE PARK Where can you go if you want to take a look at the beauty of nature here on earth as well as the marvels of outer space? Brazos Bend State Park, of course.
GEORGE RANCH HISTORICAL PARK Where can you tour an authentic 1890s Victorian mansion, sit around the campfire with cowboys during a spring roundup, and witness long-forgotten crafts such as the making of lye soap in the same day? The George Ranch Historical Park, on FM 762 just outside the Richmond/Rosenberg area, is the perfect place. Visitors to the 480-acre "working ranch" park have a chance to witness life as it was any time from 1830s to the 1930s, when four generations of the same family carved a prosperous cattle ranch out of the wilderness.
FORT BEND MUSEUM The Fort Bend Museum, 500 Houston St. in Richmond, provides visitors with a colorful display of artifacts and memorabilia presenting 100 years of history beginning with Stephen F. Austin's original colony of 300, who traveled up the Brazos River to settle in Fort Bend County in 1822.
JOHN M. MOORE HOME Directly behind the Fort Bend Museum (and part of the museum complex) at 406 South Fifth Street is the former home of Congressman John M. Moore. The neoclassical mansion was built in 1883 by architect Thomas Culshaw of Liverpool, England, and was remodeled in 1905. It was lived in continuously by the Moore family until 1974 when it was given to the museum. Renovation of the home was completed in 1997.
LONG-SMITH COTTAGE Next door to the museum (and also a part of the museum complex) is the Long-Smith Cottage, a home built in 1840s on property owned by Jane Long.
FORT BEND COUNTY COURTHOUSE Two blocks away at 500 Jackson Street is the Fort Bend County courthouse, built in 1908.
HISTORIC CHURCHES Religion played an important part in life during the development of Fort Bend County.
RICHMOND POLICE STATION AND DECKER PARK As Preston and Sixth Streets is Decker Park, containing a collection of historic buildings owned by the Fort Bend Museum.
MC FARLANE HOUSE On the same block as St. John's at 410 Jackson Street is the McFarlane House, built in 1882-83 by merchant Isaac McFarlane.
