| The 10th annual Pamela's Race and Walk - a fundraising memorial for a Brazos High School graduate killed in a car wreck - will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 3 at Cool Acres Ranch in Orchard, off State Highway 36 North.
All proceeds from the event benefit the non-profit Pamela Catherine Haas Memorial Scholarship Fund, which financially assists students who have interests similar to those of the late Haas. Donations are welcome.
The fund was organized in memory of Haas by her mother, Catherine Kellner, following Haas' death in an automobile accident on July 15, 1998. A BHS and Texas Lutheran University graduate, Haas was involved in community service work and taught Girl Scouts as director of the Horseback Riding Program at Camp Mitre Peak.
As they have for many years, Dr. Denton and Louise Cooley, owners of Cool Acres Ranch, and Anneliese Wingate of Bush, Lindsey, Wingate Farm will host Pamela's Race and Walk.
Kellner said there will be plenty of free food for participants and music by Disc Jockey Felix Reyes of “DJ Phoenix.” Door prizes will be awarded, and a raffle and silent auction will be held, as will a post-race party.
The 5K/10K race on a U.S. Track and Field (USTF)-certified flat course is 85 percent asphalt paved over scenic country roads and ranch land.
The first place overall male and female winners will receive awards, as will the male and female first- through third-place finishers in each of the following age groups: below 19; 20-29; 30 -39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; and 70 and older. Masters Overall awards will also be given in the male and female categories.
Those who wish to participate in the 2+ rated pleasure walk may register and begin anytime between 8-11 a.m., and must be finished by 2 p.m. The walk is sanctioned by the American Volkssporting Association.
In addition to the entry fee, there is a $3 fee to receive International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) credit for the walk.
The fee for Pamela's Race and Walk participants who register by April 12 is $20 each, and after then the cost is $25. Race-day registration and packet pick-up will take place from 6:30-7:45 a.m.

On race day, follow the Cool Acres Ranch signs north on Long Lane Road from Highway 36 east of Orchard or east on Johnson Road from FM 1489 north of Orchard.
