  • Fort Bend ISD assistant principal accused in ‘peeping' incident

A Sugar Land educator was arrested Thursday after engaging in peeping tom activities in his neighborhood.

John Jeffrey Jones, 39, an assistant principal for Garcia Middle School in the Fort Bend Independent School District, was arrested on two charges of disorderly conduct after he looked into a window of a neighbor's home, said Doug Adolph, Sugar Land Police spokesman. Sugar Land Police arrested him at 6 a.m. Thursday after they set up a surveillance in the 14000 block of Erin Court in the Ragus Lakes Subdivision after receiving a complaint from a resident who had seen Jones looking into neighbors' windows.

Jones lived in the neighborhood, Adolph said.

“He did admit to looking in a window and watching a woman in the house,” Adolph said, describing Jones' statement after his arrest.

Jones also admitted to previous peeping tom offenses, Adolph said.

The charges against Jones are a Class C misdemeanor. Jones was taken to the Sugar Land jail, saw a judge and was released, Adolph said.

The Fort Bend ISD released a statement Thursday afternoon about Jones' arrest.

“The employee is being placed on administrative leave with pay, and pending the outcome of the investigation, appropriate action will be taken,” said Nancy Porter, director of communications with the Fort Bend ISD, in the statement.

Jones had been with the district for 17 years and at Garcia Middle School for three years, Porter said.

She said the district could not provide any additional information as the Sugar Land Police Department is conducting the investigation.

Garcia Middle School Principal Viretta West also released a statement to parents and guardians regarding the arrest. Both her letter and the district statement said the incident did not happen on campus and did not involve students. West's letter, though, referred to the arrested individual as a “Garcia Middle School employee” and did not divulge Jones as that person or the employee's position.
