| Three different charges have been filed against a Hempstead man for his role in a fatal car wreck Saturday in Simonton.
Daniel Roy Woodard, 46, was charged with reckless driving, driving while intoxicated-first and intoxication manslaughter following the collision which killed a Fulshear man. Woodard is in the Fort Bend County Jail, with bail set at $10,000.
Killed in the collision was Charles Douglas Tovar, 19. The wreck occurred just after 10 p.m. when Woodard, traveling east on FM 1093 in a 2005 Ford pickup truck, ran a stop sign and collided with Tovar, who was traveling north on FM 1489 in a 2005 Toyota, said Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Devon Wiles.
Tovar was taken by ambulance to OakBend Medical Center, where he died around 1:20 a.m. Sunday. Tovar's passenger, Kaitlyn Kirkland, 18, of Simonton, was taken to OakBend, then transferred to a Houston hospital, where she was treated and released.
Woodard was not injured.
Wiles said Woodard was charged with reckless driving because two witnesses reported him driving at a high rate of speed, passing another vehicle in a no passing zone prior to the accident.
Incorrect information given in Wednesday's story on the time of the wreck came directly from the DPS office in Pierce.
