Irene Levey, a well-known fixture in Richmond and Rosenberg, died Saturday. She was 83.

While born in the Bronx, Levey considered herself a true Texan. Married 51 years to Maurice “Poy” Levey, the coupled ventured into the fabrics business. She later took over “The Economy Store” in downtown Richmond.

In addition to her business sense, Mrs. Levey also volunteered at Polly Ryan Memorial Hospital and enjoyed tutoring students at Jane Long Elementary.

Funeral services are at 4 p.m. Monday at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet in Houston.
