| Fort Bend County Commissioners Court on Tuesday may vote on a resolution urging Gov. Rick Perry to veto a Texas Legislature bill designed to protect property owners.
House Bill 2006 was authored by State Rep. Debbie Riddle, R-Houston, and it adds requirements to the process of condemning property by local governments. Requirements include the need for condemnations to be voted upon individually at public meetings.
The Texas Association of Counties and the Texas Municipal League oppose the bill, as does the Harris County Toll Road Authority, contending its provisions will significantly increase the cost of condemnation procedures.
The court meets at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Travis Building in Richmond. It will also vote on:
€ A memorandum of understanding between the county and Cherokee Sugar Land LP, regarding the proposed redevelopment of the Imperial Sugar factory in Sugar Land;
€ A memorandum of understanding with Fort Bend County EMS regarding administration of mass casualty response trailers;
€ An agreement with The WorkSource to provide summer employment opportunities for youth through Aug. 31, at no cost to Fort Bend County.
