| EAST BERNARD - East Bernard waited until the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away from county rival Boling 9-3 on a rainy Tuesday night at Koym Field.
The Brahmas scored five runs to break open a 4-3 game filled with fielding errors and missed scoring opportunities.
"Boling just made some plays early," said East Bernard head baseball coach Greg Murrile. "Then we were able to take advantage of a couple of hit batters and some key hits in that sixth inning."
Playoff bound and District 27-2A leading East Bernard improved to 7-1, and Boling slipped into a two-way tie with Brazos for third place.
Pitcher Paul Demny had a sluggish start and got into several jams before taking control in the sixth and seventh inning.
In the sixth, Charlie Easterwood reached on an error and stole second. Lance Kolafa singled and Demny was intentionally walked with two outs. But Andrew Webster was hit by a pitch and Easterwood scored to put the Brahmas up by two. After Kolafa scored on a wild pitch, Clint Graves walked and Jacob Hudman was hit by a pitch to force home Demny.
Aaron Alexander then delivered a two-run single to give the Brahmas their final margin of victory.
The Brahmas took advantage of two errors to score two runs in the bottom of the first. Webster reached on an error and later scored on a base hit by Chris Kubes. Easterwood singled home Kubes and Kolafa singled in courtesy runner Luis Rodan to make it 3-0.
After Boling tied it, East Bernard retook the lead at 4-3 when Webster walked and scored on a fielding error.
