    The winter holiday month has finally arrived, and area residents have plenty of opportunities to get a head start on holiday shopping, as well as enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas.

    Downtown Richmond is the site of the annual Miracle on Morton Street from 3-9 p.m. Saturday. The event features plenty of food, arts and crafts, music and holiday singing.

    Admission is free, and there are plenty of activities and games for children. Santa Claus and the Grinch will both make an appearance.

    There is free parking at the Fort Bend Annex, 4520 Reading Road with free shuttle service from Christmas in Rosenberg from 2:45-9:45 p.m. To take advantage of the service, note that the drop-off point is at Fifth Street and Morton Street.

    Christmas in Rosenberg also runs from 3-9 p.m. Saturday. The popular festival features two concerts, one at 4 p.m. with the American Rock Legends and one at 7 p.m. featuring Ezra Charles and The Works, Saturday in historic downtown Rosenberg. Appearing are Mr. and Mrs. Claus, a children's carnival at the historic Railroad Museum, gift vendors, a food court, and other activities.

    A 20-minute play, "The Christmas Tea," will be performed at 5, 6 , 7 and 8 p.m. Call 832-595-3525 or visit www.visitrosenberg.com for tickets. Free shuttle parking with drop-off point is at Avenue H and Third Street.

    Activities begin Friday evening in Needville with Country Christmas. Businesses are hosting open houses from 5-9 pm. Additional activities include a live nativity scene, wagon and fire truck rides, raffle, foods, and an appearance by Mr. and Mrs. Claus.     Brazos Bend State Park is celebrating a "Simple Christmas" from 3-7 p.m. Saturday at the Nature Center with live music, hayrides, piņatas, historical re-enactors, storytelling, marshmallow roasting, and visits with "Southern Santa."     The Fort Bend Symphony is presenting a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Stafford Centre Concert Hall, 10505 Cash Road. New and traditional holiday favorites will be performed, and the public is invited to sing along. Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for seniors 65 and over.     The Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America is hosting its "Golden Stars" Golden Eagle celebration at 7 p.m. Friday at Safari Texas on FM 1464 to honor Lane Ward, an Eagle Scout and community leader.

    All Eagle Scouts are invited to attend. A special tribute will be presented by Donna Kay Tucker in memory of her late husband, O.D. Tucker, a Scouting supporter. '

    Foster High School's 5k run and walk starts at 8 a.m. Saturday. The fee is $25 the morning of the race, and the picturesque run also features door prizes.     Put up the aprons this weekend, as the Rosenberg Knights of Columbus is holding its monthly fish fry from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday at the K-C Hall on Kay Cee Drive. Adult and to-go plates are $7, and children can eat for $5. Call 281-342-2085 for advance tickets.

    For some Christmas bargains this weekend, visit the Velasquez Elementary "Winter Wonderland" craft show from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at 402 Macek Road in Richmond. Lots of caroling and food, and children can watch "The Polar Express" while parents shop. For more information call 832-223-2600.

    The Brazos Valley Cat Club is sponsoring a "Meowy Christmas Cat Show" from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Bend Fairgrounds. Different breeds will compete in various categories, and cat accessories will be available. Admission is $4 for adults, and tickets for children under 12 and seniors over 60 are $2.     Enjoy football and help youngsters at the same time. A flag football game between the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office "Enforcers" and the Sugar Land Police Department "Chargers" starts at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Old Kempner Stadium, Seventh and Wood Street.

    Texas storyteller Doc Moore will be telling tall tales at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lakefront Amphitheater at 16628 Highway 36 across from Needville High School.
