  • 'Shower' planned for Casa de Esperanza

The annual "Salute to Fort Bend" event held at and sponsored by Safari Texas will be held later in the year benefiting Casa de Esperanza de los Niņos - the House of Hope for Children.

In its fifth year, the salute is a gift to the community from Safari Texas manager Allison Wen. Safari Texas underwrites the event which benefits a charity or non-profit organization.

In a warmup for the gala later this year, a "wish list breakfast shower" for Casa de Esperanza will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Safari Texas in Richmond.

Casa de Esperanza de los Niņos is a foster care agency providing residential, medical and psychological care to children between the ages of birth and six years who are at high risk for abuse, neglect, or the effects of HIV/AIDS. Children are placed with the agency voluntarily by parents in crisis, or by women who give birth during incarceration, or by Children's Protective Service.

Quality care is provided in individual foster homes housing no more than six children, and all services are free. Because the organization receives no funds from CPS or other governmental agencies, funding is always a paramount concern.

Tickets to the breakfast are just $5 each, but each guest is also asked to bring an item needed by the agency.

Typical needs include diapers and pull-ups, baby food, paper products, formula, medicine (Infant Tylenol and Children's Tylenol), and gift cards to Wal Mart, grocery stores, and eating places suitable for children.

For reservations, call Safari Texas at 281-277-7888. To learn more about Casa de Esperanza, which provides residential, medical and psychological care according to the needs of each child, visit the website at www.casahope.org.
