  • Off-duty cop shoots 2 suspects

    Wednesday, February 1, 2006 12:22 PM CST

An off-duty Richmond police officer shot two suspects who were allegedly trying to abduct her in front of her Jersey Village home Tuesday morning. One of the suspects died at the scene.

Detective Sgt. C.J. Harper of the Jersey Village Police Department said Richmond police officer Holly Mong was leaving her residence at 6:30 a.m. to go to an in-service training for the police department when two suspects approached her as she got into her car.

As Mong sat behind the wheel and put her keys in the ignition, Harper said, a black male opened her car door, held a pistol to her head and demanded that she move into the passenger seat.

At that time, another suspect entered the back passenger seat of the car. As Mong moved over into the passenger seat, she pulled out her weapon and fired, shooting both suspects and killing one. The second suspect was taken to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center in Houston.

"She's a very brave and courageous officer for what she did," Harper said.

Richmond Sgt. Lowell Neinast said Mong is on her regular days off at this time and, "after such a traumatic experience," she will return to work when she feels she is ready.

Jersey Village police are still investigating the case.
