  • Palmer to buy Pecan Grove, Sweetwater, Sugar Creek CC's

    Friday, December 31, 2004 1:31 PM CST

The King is coming to Texas in a big way. Addison-based Arnold Palmer Golf Management (APGM) has signed a letter of intent to purchase 24 golf properties in Texas owned by American Golf to add to Palmer's two Texas properties - Tour 18 in Dallas and Tour 18 in Houston.

Pecan Grove Plantation Country Club in Richmond, Sweetwater Country Club and Sugar Creek Country Club, both in Sugar Land, are three local properties effected by the purchase.

"American Golf is under a letter of intent to buy," said Jayson Peterson, general manager of Pecan Grove Country Club. "The closing date has not been established yet, in fact, I think it's been pushed back a little bit. (APGM) is extending its due diligence period and there hasn't been a firm date set on that yet."

Other Houston-area properties being acquired are both public and private courses and include: World Houston Golf Course, Bear Creek Golf World and Walden on Lake Houston Golf & Country Club in Houston; Willow Fork Country Club in Katy; and Southwyck Golf Club in Pearland.

With 25 properties in 15 states, APGM purchase of American Golf's Texas properties will double the company's amount of courses owned.

Calls to Jim Hinckley, president and CEO of APGM were not returned.
