| Richmond City Commission members Monday approved a rate hike in water/wastewater rates for the city.
City Manager Glen Gilmore said the city has not experienced a water rate hike since 1999, and the hike approved Monday would have only a slight impact on most of the city's water customers.
Gilmore said 74 percent of the city's customers use 10,000 gallons of water or less per month. They will see a smaller increase. For those residents 65 years and older, the city increased the over-65 rate, break and that will put most of those customers in break-even situations.
The higher users will see more of an increase, as high as 15 percent for some.
Gilmore said the increase in revenue will help offset the costs of bond debt to help pay for $18 million in bonds approved by voters. Those funds are being used for the most part for improved and increased water/wastewater capacity and improvements.
