| The Fort Bend County Women's Center hosts the annual Domestic Violence Awareness luncheon Tuesday at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Sugar Land in observance of October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The event honors victims and survivors of domestic violence and volunteers and staff who have enabled the Women's Center to provide services to the community.
FBCWC volunteers may call 281-494-4545 to confirm attendance for luncheon. The luncheon is being donated by Ruth's Chris Steak House.
"I am always impressed by the way Fort Bend County pulls together to help others. Using teamwork, we can create a community that will not tolerate domestic violence," said Vita Rogers, executive director of the Women's Center. "I hope that during Domestic Violence Awareness Month people will remember victims and survivors of domestic violence and be inspired to end these crimes by helping any way they can."
October is observed to mourn those who have died as a result of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived, raise public awareness about violence in the home and motivate individuals to help eliminate it.
The Women's Center helps survivors of domestic violence every day, and almost 90 percent of the Center's clients do not return to their batterers after leaving the shelter.
The Fort Bend County Women's Center has helped more than 15,000 women and children achieve violence-free lifestyles for more than 23 years.
Through fund-raisers, donations and community support, the Center can continue to provide emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, support services and educational outreach to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children.
If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault, please call the Center's 24-hour Hotline at 281-342-4357 (HELP).
